Earth Science

I think my most favorite class in High School was Earth Science. We did several projects during this semester like making an airplane from cardboard using tools such as a jigsaw, which I had never seen before as my dad was not inclined to be creative in that way.  He hired somebody to build things that needed building.  One project was building a rocket that actually went up in the air.  I remember that it was very cool when the parachute popped out and the rocket floated to the ground.  But the best project was going into the fields and marking out grids of 2 feet by 2 feet and counting the bugs over several days.  We learned how to set up the grid, we had to figure out what types of bugs were in our grid, and then estimate, based on the amount of bugs, how many bugs actually lived in our grid.  We learned if there was one bug that you can see, there were many more that you cannot see.  I have never understood that until I moved to Georgia where one cockroach that you see means that there are hundreds more living in your house that you cannot see.
